About April Young

April Young began her full time sculptural practice after joining Glasgow Ceramic Studio in 2001. Her work is figurative and whether taking human or animal form, usually bursting with life or telling a story. Work is produced to a variety of scales to suit either homes, gardens or the public arena.

Biography / CV of April Young

April Young has been commissioned to work in a number of materials and to various scales from small works for giftware (mass production) through medium sized works in clay as one off private commissions, to life-sized bronze figures for corporate artwork.

Originally from Derbyshire, April has recently returned after six years of full time studio practice in Glasgow, to relocate her working studio in Ednaston at the edge of the Peak District.

Shortlisted for Air Arts Nightingale Macmillan Installation at Derby City Hospital. Result of commission yet to be awarded as of 13th August 2014.

‘Gifted’ public art project, funded by the Arts Council. To make a series of life size horse sculptures and deliver community workshops from Sadler Gate in Derby.

April Young`s Concepts are informed by April`s study of and interest in literature, folklore and mythology and as such can be read on many levels. Whilst the composition and appearance of the sculptures typically reflect Classical themes, the visual narratives are often firmly rooted in a contemporary perspective.
